Measure altitude on Android: Altitude Rank

The story behind the product · 3 min read

Measuring altitude and building a meaningful ranking.

Recording an altitude is not the same as ranking it. AltitudeRank handles the distinction through data rules and user flow.

01 / Experience

From a measurement to an eligible ranking entry

  1. Create an identity

Anonymous or email sign-in and a leaderboard username connect measurements to profiles.

  2. Record a measurement

The API stores and classifies altitude. Not every reading belongs on a leaderboard; eligibility is a separate rule.

  3. Follow the ranking

Leaderboards, profiles and badges expose results. Avoiding exact coordinates in ranking responses is part of the design.

02 / Product structure

What sits behind the screen?

These areas support one experience through different responsibilities, keeping the user-facing flow simpler.

API

Authentication, measurements, ranking and errors.

Mobile

Navigation, themes and localized client.

Panel

Internal administration workspace.

Documentation

OpenAPI and architecture decisions.

For the technically curious: code and architecture

Node.js/TypeScript, Fastify and MySQL form the API. The README distinguishes a completed API MVP from a mobile foundation with native projects, navigation and localization. Ground readings and flight/suspicious records differ in ranking eligibility.

03 / Commercial structure

Commercial model and implemented boundaries.

The reviewed documentation does not establish advertising or purchase revenue. API and mobile foundations are not presented as financial outcomes or a completed consumer release.

04 / Publishing & growth

How does the product reach its audience?

Recent history adds Japanese and Portuguese localization alongside English/Turkish work. The target is a global mobile experience, but native projects and language files do not establish store approval or campaign success.

05 / Development

From one idea to a product flow.

The workspace separates API, mobile, panel and docs. Recent commits add icons, rank-change notifications and daily reports, expanding the product without mixing measurement rules, presentation and operations.

Based on reviewed local source, available Git messages and product records. Development features may differ from the store version; where available, screenshots come from the existing store presentation; module cards are explanatory diagrams.
